Basic PLC Troubleshooting & Programming

Designed for maintenance and electrical workers who want to learn to troubleshoot equipment that uses Programmable Logic Controllers.
Day One: Understanding PLCs and basic PLC Programs
  • Understanding the types and configurations
  • The internal processing
  • The basic parts of a PLC
  • How the PLC uses the program
  • Inputs and Outputs
  • How the program is executed
  • Basic Ladder Logic
  • Reading the Ladder Program
  • Writing a Ladder Program
  • Troubleshooting Using The ladder Program
  • Basic PLC Wiring configurations

This highly interactive class allows each student to use what he or she has learned by actually writing programs, and entering the program in an Allen Bradley based PLC system simulation, then see the program operate. Additionally the class will include systematically correcting a failure in a program.

The students will work "Hands-On" with a real powered PLC on a real electrical panel. The class is divided in teams of two or three to work with separate training panels. Students will wire a PLC and see the results of their work in action. Learn by Doing!

This class covers most major brands including: Allen Bradley, Koyo, TI, GE, Siemens, Automation Direct, and others...
Day Two: Troubleshooting PLC operated Machines and Systems
  • Troubleshooting the components of a PLC
  • Common Failures associated with PLC systems
  • Using Meters and other equipment
  • How to systematically approach a problem
  • Working with the PLC
  • Sourcing and Sinking Circuits
  • PNP and NPN devices

This second day takes the basics that are learned on the first day and puts them to use by wiring, setting up programs and actually troubleshooting the failures placed in real PLC circuits. Our philosophy of "Learn by Doing" is carried out well in this High Impact Class!
